THE MACY CUP LEGACY

In Memory of Gordon K. Macy

Macy Cup

Gordon and Dee were charter members of the club. Gordon was our second Commodore. Under Gordon's watch the club decided to have a Commodore's ball and that it would be in November at the end of the sailing season, it would celebrate the past year, honor the commodore and be a vehicle to award member's accomplishments for the past year.

Gordon and Dee enjoyed racing and cruising. They owned a Hunter 25 during the years we knew them. After Gordon's death, the Macy family wanted present and future sailors and club members to know of his love for sailing. The origin of the cup was to award it to the non-officer member who had contributed the most to benefit the club the previous year. It was at the request of Dee that the immediate past Commodore, with a committee (if he chose), select the recipient. Rick Smith, also a charter member and professional glass blower, designed and built the award.
